An Open Letter To All Future Realtors Getting Their License
Dear Future Realtors,
The real estate industry is one of the most challenging and rewarding industries to work in. As a realtor, you will have the opportunity to help people buy and sell homes, invest in property, and find the perfect place to call home. However, you may also need to be prepared for long hours, difficult clients, and the occasional stressful situation. If you are up for the challenge, then a career in real estate may be the perfect fit for you. Here are 4 things to keep in mind as you begin your journey as a realtor:
1. Adapt, Learn and Grow
The real estate industry is an ever-changing landscape and to be a successful realtor, you need to be adaptable and have a willingness to learn.
The most successful realtors are those who are always trying to improve their skills and stay ahead of the curve. They know that the real estate market is constantly evolving and that they need to evolve with it. They are always looking for new ways to market their listings and attract buyers. They are also constantly expanding their knowledge of the industry, knowing the market inside out - so that they can provide their clients with the best possible service.
They stay up-to-date on the latest technology and trends, and they're always looking for new ways to stand out in a crowded market. If you're not willing to put in the work to stay ahead of the curve, you'll quickly fall behind. But if you're willing to adapt and learn, there's no limit to what you can achieve in the world of real estate.
2. Take Ownership of Your Business
Realtors are self-employed, which means they are responsible for their own business. This can be a great opportunity to be your own boss, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility. As a realtor, you need to take ownership of your business in order to be successful. By that, I mean that you need to be in control of every aspect of your business, from how you do marketing, how you follow up and service your clients, to how to close deals, get more referrals and many more.
You also need to be the one who is responsible for your own success or failure. If something goes wrong, it's up to you to fix it. And if something goes right, it's up to you to make sure that it keeps going right. In short, taking ownership of your business means taking responsibility for your own life and career. It's not always easy, but it's the only way to be truly successful as a realtor.
If you are ready to put in the hard work, you will find it to be one of the most rewarding things you can achieve in your career.
3. Join The Right Team
After you get your RES License, one of the most important things you can do is to choose the right team to work with. When you are beginning your career in real estate, it is crucial that you partner with the right team. The team you work with should be experienced and have a proven track record. They should also be knowledgeable about the area in which you will be working. In addition, it is important that they have a good reputation and are respected by their peers. By partnering with the right team, you will be able to learn from their experience and benefit from their knowledge. Moreover, you will be able to avoid many of the pitfalls that can occur when starting out in the real estate industry.
One of the most common mistakes that most new realtors make is assuming that joining any team will do. They join solely because their friends are on the team, without considering whether the team is a good fit for their individual skills and goals.
Each real estate team has its own unique culture and way of doing things. If you're not compatible with the team's style, there's a chance it may not be beneficial for the growth in your career. That's why it's so important to take the time to research different teams before making a decision. Spend some time observing how the team members interact with each other and with clients. And most importantly, trust your gut. If a team feels right, chances are, you'll feel right too. There are plenty of great teams out there, so there's no need to rush into joining one. It's one of the most potentially important decisions in your Real Estate career, and taking the time to research different teams and find the one that best aligns with your goals and values will help you get off to a strong start in your journey.
4. Use The Right Tools
In the first point, I mentioned staying up-to-date on the latest technology and trends, and this is what I do on a frequent basis. I make it a point to stay informed and practice new technologies through a variety of sources, including online research, trade publications, networking with industry colleagues, and attending relevant conferences and workshops. I have tried and tested many softwares, tools and technology for over 18 years, but recently I've discovered the most powerful one of them all: GM Properties. This is one which I feel is extremely helpful in scaling my business and providing top-notch value to my clients.
